The Orchestra and Membership

Challenging but friendly

We are a “rehearsal orchestra”, that is we meet to play classical music for the enjoyment of members, without the responsibility of putting on concerts. It provides opportunities for students and amateurs to become exposed to a wider range of music, and gives valuable experience for playing as part of an orchestra in a supportive environment.

The music can still be challenging, as we tackle symphonies as well as suites, and aim to play with the tempo and spirit as intended by the composers. By the end of the term we aim to be able to play through and to be familiar with these great pieces.

We welcome additional players of violin, viola and oboe in particular. Horns, trumpets and percussion would also be welcome. Membership of the CPCO is open to anyone aged 18 or over who has reached or exceeded Grade 6 standard on their instrument and to children of members at that standard. The subscription for regular members is £60 per term (usually 10 rehearsals).

If you would like to try us out, why not come along to a couple of our rehearsals. Email us at info@cpco.org.uk and let us know which instrument you play and what experience you have in orchestral or other groups. We will email the music in advance. Please bring along a music stand with you.
